Cornelius completed his B-Tech Degree (Mining) from University of Johannesburg in 2004. He holds Mine Managers Certificates for both Coal Mines and Metalliferous Mines and Management Development Program Certificate from (Wits Business School). He has 19 years experience in the mining industry ranging from coal mining with BHP Billiton Energy Coal and Kangra Coal (South Africa) where he held various management position including Mine Manager.

He was also appointed as HOD Mining Operations of an iron ore mining operation in the Northern Cape. He gained vast experience in project management at Murray & Roberts Cementation where he was serving as Chief Projects Estimator. Cornelius has also provided explosives management and blasting technology services in various operations within the African Continent while working for AEL Mining Services & BME.
